It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Martin Thomas Mathers, who passed away suddenly but peacefully on Friday, November 21st, 2025, at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
Martin was the cherished and beloved husband of Shannon, a deeply loved member of his family, and a treasured and steadfast friend to many.
His kindness, enthusiasm, and dedication touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Martin leaves behind a remarkable professional legacy, defined by his unwavering commitment to environmental causes, practical sustainability and social justice.
He was the respected and effective Project Manager of the vital free expert energy advice service across Perth and Kinross, The Heat Project Scotland, where he helped countless individuals and families.
For over ten years, he was a passionate and influential climate change campaigner with WWF Scotland.
His expertise led to secondments with the Scottish Government's Sustainable Development and later, Industry Teams, contributing significantly to national policy.
Before taking up the lead on The Heat Project Scotland, he spent eight years with ScottishPower Renewables, where his drive and vision led to the development of many of the largest onshore windfarms in the UK.
Combining scientific knowledge with hands-on skill, Martin was a true expert, even personally renovating homes to enhance their energy efficiency, a practical demonstration of his lifelong belief in a greener future.
All family and friends are warmly invited to attend a funeral service to celebrate Martin's inspiring life and spirit. The service will be held at Perth Crematorium on Monday, December 22nd, 2025, at 10:00 am.
The family kindly requests no flowers, please. Instead, donations will be gratefully received upon retiral at the crematorium in memory of Martin, for his favourite charities.
