All any of us can ask for is a long life well lived - and well loved.
Rosetta’s long life started in Paisley alongside her identical twin Jean. They were dressed identically growing up, something they re-enacted in their adulthood despite their best efforts. They shared a love of sweet things like marshmallows, and fruit pastilles, and whisky.
Rosetta lived well, caring for others, feeding all who crossed her threshold. She was known for loving nature, taking long walks with her dear friend Margaret at Welles Farm, or ushering all children out of the car to watch the migrating geese – even if they would be late for school.
Quietly, the most qualified of her family Rosetta was a Sister and midwife. She was one of the first women not to be demoted after her marriage, which speaks to her characteristic strength and independence. It was never a surprise to anyone that she was a nurse, as she was everything a nurse ought to be.
Rosetta herself was well loved. Her husband Philip was besotted with her all through their childhoods. When she finally decided to marry him, she remarked, ‘He had always loved me and so always would’. They had many adventures together, from Paisley to Elderslie, to their beloved house of Woodcroft, their Post Office in Crail with their little dog Tammy, to their retirement in Pitlochry. They raised three daughters: Rhona, Avril, and Hazel. She was affectionately known as ‘Pet Gran’ by her grandchildren. She was much loved by her nieces and nephew. Rosetta lived to meet four great-grandchildren - much to her delight.
Rosetta died peacefully at home on the 16th of January with her daughters and cats at her side. She is survived by her daughters Avril and Hazel.
Her funeral will be graveside 11am at Fonab Cemetery in Pitlochry - Thursday the 29th. We will welcome all who knew and loved her to the Hydro Hotel afterwards at 11.30am for a short memorial and lunch.
